CARDWELL, MISSOURI — Months after an Illinois couple was charged after an 11-year-old boy was found wandering in a diaper, another disturbing family abuse case has ended with a life sentence. This time, a Missouri man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing and decapitating his own mother inside their home.

Trevor John Huber, 43, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his 63-year-old mother, Charlotte Wilson.

Police Called to the Home

The killing happened on December 21, 2018, in Cardwell, a small rural town in Missouri.

According to court records, Huber called 911 early that morning and asked for an officer to come to the house. When police arrived, he answered the door naked. Investigators said he appeared confused and possibly under the influence of drugs.

Trevor John Huber was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his mother.

Inside the home, officers found Wilson’s body. Her head had been removed. Police also found a bloody knife and hammer on the kitchen table.

Huber was arrested at the scene.

Meth Use and Paranoid Claims

During an interview with police, Huber admitted he had used methamphetamine in the days before the killing.

He also told investigators he believed his mother was trying to poison him. Police said he appeared to be dealing with paranoid thoughts at the time.

At one point during the interview, Huber reportedly wrote the words “I killed my mother” on a piece of paper. He then tore the paper into pieces and swallowed it.

Convicted After Trial

Huber was convicted of first-degree murder after a two-day trial.

The Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office thanked the sheriff’s office and Missouri State Highway Patrol for their work on the case.

Prosecutor Nicholas Jain said investigators handled the homicide with professionalism and diligence.

Huber will now remain in prison for the rest of his life, with no chance of parole.
