FOX LAKE, Ill. — Following the life sentence of a Texas mother for throwing her toddler from a hotel balcony, an 11-year-old Illinois boy’s escape from his home has led to the arrest of his mother and her boyfriend on charges of systemic, years-long abuse.
Pricilla P. Marshall, 34, and Cody R. Marion, 35, were taken into custody after the boy was discovered near Nippersink Boulevard and Grand Avenue at approximately 9:30 a.m. on March 6, 2026. The child was found by a local business employee who reported that the boy was wearing only a diaper and had visible blood on his face, along with numerous scratches and welts across his body.

The Allegations of Abuse
Following forensic interviews at the Lake County Child Advocacy Center, investigators determined that the boy had been subjected to severe maltreatment for several years. According to court documents and police statements, the abuse included:
Physical Violence: Marshall allegedly beat the child with extension cords, metal spatulas, and spoons. Prosecutors claim she often forced the boy to remove his clothing before these beatings to increase the pain and once threatened to stab him "33 times."
Psychological Torture: The mother reportedly forced her son to repeatedly write sentences in a notebook stating, "you're not a loved child, everybody hates you." During this task, the boy was allegedly forced to kneel on uneven floorboards.
Degrading Treatment: Authorities allege the couple poured dish soap into the boy's mouth and ears and forced him to eat canned food or ravioli while the other children in the home were fed fast food from McDonald's and Pizza Hut.
The boy was also reportedly barred from attending school and was occasionally forced into physical altercations with an older brother at Marshall's direction.

Status of the Children
Four other children lived in the home—two aged 1 and 2, and two older boys who were at school at the time of the initial police response. While investigators confirmed that the other children appeared to be unharmed, all five minors have been placed in the protective custody of an extended family member.
Legal Proceedings
Marshall and Marion both face charges of:
Aggravated battery to a child (Felony)
Domestic battery causing bodily harm
Domestic battery (physical contact)
Endangering the life or health of a child
A Lake County judge granted a petition to detain Cody Marion until his next court date on April 2, 2026. Pricilla Marshall is scheduled for a detention hearing on Tuesday afternoon. Both remain held at the Lake County Jail.
