May 6, 2026

  • Antwan Carter, 31, was charged with the murder of his girlfriend's two brothers in Miami after a confrontation in their apartment.
  • The shooting occurred early Saturday as the brothers checked on their sister, resulting in one death at the scene and another at the hospital.
  • Carter was found outside the building with a gun and has a history of domestic violence, now facing charges of first-degree murder without bond.

MIAMI, FLORIDA — Just one day after a Florida man was charged after allegedly opening fire at a family’s car during a road rage incident, another disturbing shooting case out of the state has left 2 brothers dead. Authorities say 31-year-old Antwan Carter shot and killed his girlfriend’s 2 brothers inside a Miami apartment after they came to check on their sister.

The deadly shooting happened early Saturday morning at an apartment located at 5329 NW 17th Street. When officers arrived, they found 2 men in their 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other later died at a hospital.

Police say the deadly shooting happened inside an apartment at 5329 NW 17th Street in Miami, Florida.

Brothers Came to Check on Their Sister

Investigators say the 2 brothers had gone to the apartment to check on their sister before a confrontation broke out with Carter. Police allege the encounter escalated into gunfire, leaving both men fatally wounded.

According to authorities, Carter later claimed he had left the apartment to get “air” and went to his car to retrieve his wallet and keys.

However, the woman told police that Carter blamed her for the deadly tragedy.

“See what you made me do,” Carter allegedly said.

Neighbor Heard 5 Gunshots

A neighbor, Gina Kirk, told CBS News she was jolted awake by the sound of gunfire.

“I woke from a dead sleep — five gunshots, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow — and then the door slammed underneath my balcony,” Kirk said.

Police searched the apartment and recovered several spent casings and projectiles.

Carter Found Outside the Building

Officers found Carter outside the apartment building after the shooting. According to police, he told officers:

“I am the one.”

Authorities also recovered a gun from his pocket.

Carter was taken into custody and later appeared in bond court, where Judge Mindy Glazer said there was probable cause for the charges.

“It looks like he shot and killed his girlfriend’s two brothers,” Judge Glazer said during the hearing.

Carter appeared in bond court Monday, where a judge ordered him held without bond.

Held Without Bond

Carter has been charged with 2 counts of first-degree murder. Police also said he has a history of domestic violence.

During Monday’s court appearance, the judge granted the state’s motion for pretrial detention and ordered Carter held without bond.

Carter has pleaded not guilty.

If convicted of first-degree murder in Florida, Carter could face severe penalties, including the possibility of the death penalty.
