HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FLORIDA — Nicolas Andrew Totherow, 33, is accused of chasing a vehicle carrying four people — including a child — and firing multiple shots during a road rage incident that unfolded across several miles, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

911 Caller Reported Shots Fired During Pursuit
The incident began at about 3:14 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 92 and Wiggins Road when a 911 caller reported being followed and shot at. The caller told dispatchers there were four people inside the vehicle, including a child, and stayed on the line as the chase continued onto Park Road and the eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 4.
Gunfire Continued Onto Interstate 4
Investigators said the suspect continued firing while following the victims onto I-4. The targeted vehicle later exited toward County Line Road while the suspect continued eastbound, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies later located the victims’ vehicle and documented multiple bullet strikes, officials said.

Arrest Made Within Hours
Detectives identified Totherow as the suspect and took him into custody later that evening, according to officials. Court filings cited in the report allege he admitted firing multiple rounds and stated he intended to kill the driver.
A motion seeking to keep him held without bond states Totherow claimed he was cut off and “brake-checked” during the confrontation.
Weapon and Additional Evidence Recovered
A probable cause affidavit described investigators recovering a loaded firearm from Totherow’s vehicle shortly after the incident. The affidavit also cited the discovery of a vape pen containing a substance consistent with cannabis resin that tested above the legal limit, along with evidence that Totherow was driving on a suspended license.
Charges and Court Status
Totherow faces charges that include attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied vehicle, armed possession of a controlled substance, and driving with a suspended license.
He is being held in the Hillsborough County Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, according to court records.
