SCHAUMBURG, ILLINOIS — An Illinois nurse and mother was found dead inside her home after prosecutors said her former boyfriend allegedly subjected her to an hours-long attack that was captured on an audio recording device. The case adds to other disturbing allegations involving nurses in criminal cases, including one where a Florida nurse was sentenced after her husband caught her in a shocking incident with her stepson.
Katherine “Kat” Torbick, 43, was found dead on April 30 after Schaumburg police responded to her home for a welfare check. The caller told authorities they had not heard from Torbick throughout the day.

Police said officers were already aware of a previous domestic violence incident involving Torbick and Kevin Motykie, 56. When officers forced entry into the home, they found Torbick dead with signs of trauma.
Motykie was found in the garage and taken into custody on an outstanding domestic battery warrant involving Torbick.
Audio Recording Cited by Prosecutors
Prosecutors said investigators found a digital recording device on Motykie that allegedly contained more than 7 hours of audio from the attack.
According to court proceedings cited in local reports, the recording allegedly captured Torbick being restrained, assaulted, beaten, and eventually strangled.
Prosecutors said Torbick could be heard pleading with Motykie during the recording as he accused her of cheating and refused to let her go.
Charges Filed
Motykie was charged with first-degree murder and 3 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

Authorities said the case followed a prior domestic violence allegation involving the same victim. In March, Motykie had allegedly attacked Torbick during another incident at their home.
After that earlier case, there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Beloved Nurse Remembered
Torbick worked in healthcare for many years, including as a gastroenterology nurse and later as a registered nurse at Fox River MedSpa.

The med spa remembered her as warm, caring, and deeply valued by both clients and coworkers. In a statement, the business said Torbick brought genuine care and energy to the workplace and would always be part of their story.
Friends, coworkers, and loved ones also remembered her as a devoted mother.
Held Without Bail
Police said Motykie appeared intoxicated when he was arrested. Prosecutors said he later admitted to taking prescription medication.
A judge ordered Motykie detained without bail. He is scheduled to return to court on May 29.
