A 23-year-old woman from Fargo, Lena Deoliveira, has been arrested and was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault this week, following a violent incident on September 5. Authorities allege that Deoliveira attacked her boyfriend, Jonathan Granados, with a hatchet while he was asleep in a detached garage.

Court documents indicate that a witness heard a sound resembling “splitting wood” and observed Deoliveira swinging the hatchet. The witness described her as appearing “out of it” during the attack. Granados sustained severe injuries, including a deep head wound and multiple fingers nearly severed, and was rushed to a local hospital for surgery.
Deoliveira was apprehended two days later in Moorhead, Minnesota. Her booking photos showed her smiling during her mugshot, an unsettling contrast to the severity of the alleged crime. She declined to speak with law enforcement at the time of her arrest.

She is currently being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 16. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
