KERMAN, CALIFORNIA — Weeks after a married Southern California teacher was accused of lewd acts with a student, another California school-related incident is drawing attention. This time, a high school graduation ceremony ended with a chaotic scuffle involving police, graduates, and parents.
The incident happened Thursday after Kerman High School’s graduation ceremony. What should have been a celebration for students and families turned into a scene of shouting, pushing, and arrests in the parking lot.
Argument Started After Ceremony
According to police, the trouble started with an argument between a graduating senior and another boy.
Kerman police said the senior was on probation and was detained before the situation grew larger. Officials said the incident should have ended there, but family members became involved as emotions ran high.
Video from the scene showed officers trying to control the crowd as several people struggled nearby.
Mother Knocked to Ground
During the chaos, one woman identified as the senior’s mother was knocked to the ground.
Video showed her rolling on the pavement before people nearby came over to help her.
Police said a teenage girl hit an officer and tried to resist arrest during the scuffle.
Four People Arrested
Four people were jailed over their alleged roles in the incident.
Police said the senior and the other boy were charged with challenging to fight.
The senior also faced charges for violating court orders and obstruction. His mother was charged with resisting a police officer.
Authorities have not released every detail about what happened before the first argument began.
Students Say Fight Hurt Graduation Memory
Some seniors said the fight left a stain on what was supposed to be a major life moment.
