OVIEDO, Fla. — Months after the high-profile indictment of two Florida teens for the execution-style murder of a 14-year-old girl, another Florida teenager is facing serious charges. Dayveon Deshawn Perry, 19, was apprehended Wednesday following a shooting at an Oviedo duplex that sent bullets into a home occupied by four children.
Perry, also known by the alias "Pezzy," was arrested at an apartment complex on Fontana Circle shortly after the incident. He currently faces multiple felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and shooting a missile into a dwelling.
Retaliation and the Incident
According to the Oviedo Police Department, the conflict began earlier on Wednesday when Perry attempted to speak with the victim and several young girls at the residence. The victim declined to engage with Perry and contacted law enforcement to have him issued a trespass warning for the property.
Surveillance footage and witness testimony indicate that Perry returned later that evening to confront the victim. As the victim returned home on a bicycle, Perry allegedly ran toward him while firing a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The victim fled inside the residence for cover as several rounds pierced a window and the front door.
Police Response and Investigation
Oviedo police officers discovered several shell casings near the property and recovered bullets from the living room. At the time of the shooting, four minors and their mother were inside the home. No injuries were reported.
Officers familiar with Perry through prior law enforcement interactions located him at a nearby complex. Upon his arrest, Perry reportedly admitted to throwing the firearm into the woods behind his apartment. Body camera footage released by the department shows Perry stating, "I made a mistake," during the arrest process.
Legal History and Current Status
At the time of the shooting, Perry was serving 18 months of supervised probation. This probation was part of a December 2025 plea deal related to a vehicle burglary that occurred in September.
Perry is currently being held at the Seminole County Jail without bond due to the attempted murder charges and the violation of his existing probation. His arraignment is scheduled for April 2026.
