POUGHQUAG, NEW YORK — Ryan Gabriel, 39, has been charged in connection with two burglaries at Total Care Pharmacy in Dutchess County that happened on the same day and were recorded on camera.

Investigators say the break-ins occurred in November at the pharmacy in Poughquag. Prosecutors allege more than a thousand pills were stolen during the incidents.

Arrest, Release, Then A Second Break-In

According to the district attorney’s office, Gabriel was arrested a short time after the first burglary and later released. Prosecutors say he returned and broke into the pharmacy again later that same day.

Gabriel was arraigned on felony charges tied to the case.

Prosecutors allege the suspect returned to the same pharmacy for a second burglary later that day.

Bail Rules Cited in Release

Officials noted that under state bail laws, suspects charged with nonviolent offenses cannot be held in jail, affecting whether a person remains in custody after arrest.

Owner Changes Staffing After Incidents

The pharmacy’s owner has increased staffing after the burglaries, saying additional coverage is being added so no employee has to work alone in the shop.
