NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK — Weeks after a woman died after falling into an open manhole in Midtown Manhattan, another street accident in New York City is drawing attention. This time, dash camera footage showed an NYPD patrol car hitting a jogger in Columbus Circle while officers were responding to a reported theft.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. Saturday near West 58th Street and Eighth Avenue.
Patrol Car Was Responding to Emergency Call
According to police, at least two officers were on their way to a larceny in progress when the collision happened.
Video obtained by The Post showed the NYPD vehicle driving with its lights flashing and sirens on. The patrol car made a left turn into Columbus Circle while going against traffic.
At the same time, the woman stepped off the sidewalk and jogged into the crosswalk.

Jogger Knocked to the Ground
The video showed the woman hitting the side of the moving patrol car.
She was thrown backward and landed face-first on the pavement. After the impact, she rolled onto her back and remained in the road for a short time.
The officers quickly got out of the patrol car and went to help her.
A cyclist also passed close to the woman moments after she fell, but did not appear to hit her.
Woman Refused Medical Treatment
The NYPD said the jogger suffered minor injuries.
Emergency medical workers responded to the scene, but the woman refused treatment.

Police have not released her name.
Questions About Emergency Driving
The NYPD said the officers were responding to a reported theft when the patrol car turned into Columbus Circle.
It was not immediately clear whether officers are allowed to drive against traffic during that kind of emergency response.
The video has raised questions about pedestrian safety, emergency driving rules, and how police vehicles should move through crowded city intersections.
For now, the incident appears to have ended without serious injuries, but the footage has spread because of how sudden the collision was.
