  • Initially arrested on May 8, she was charged with sexual activity involving a juvenile student on school grounds.
  • Walker is accused of altering student records and accessing school computers for fraudulent purposes.

ASHEBORO, NORTH CAROLINA — A former Asheboro High School counselor who was initially charged with two felony counts involving an alleged sexual encounter with a student now faces 22 felony charges connected to multiple students and alleged changes to school records.

Amber Elizabeth Walker, 39, was released from the Randolph County Jail after posting a total of $100,000 in secured bonds on May 26, according to court records.

Amber Elizabeth Walker was charged with 2 felony counts of sexual activity with a student.

A judge set bond at $20,000 for each of her five cases and ordered Walker to have no contact with the alleged victims.

First Arrest Followed Tip About Student

Walker was first arrested on May 8 after the Asheboro Police Department received information about alleged sexual activity involving a juvenile student at Asheboro High School.

Police said the reported incident happened on school grounds on May 6.

Investigators said they developed evidence supporting the allegation and arrested Walker later that same day. She was initially charged with two felony counts of sexual activity with a student.

Walker was employed as a school counselor and was also identified in reports as the girls basketball coach.

Police said the alleged incident involved a juvenile student at Asheboro High School in North Carolina.

Two More Alleged Victims Identified

Police continued investigating after Walker’s first arrest.

Authorities later identified two additional alleged victims, leading to more charges and a second arrest on May 21.

Walker now faces 22 felony charges across five cases. The charges include counts involving sexual activity with a student and indecent liberties with a student.

Officials have not released the ages or names of the alleged victims because they are juveniles.

Accused of Altering Student Records

Some of the new charges involve allegations that Walker improperly accessed the Asheboro City Schools computer system.

Court records allege she changed student grades and grade point averages stored in government computer records.

She faces felony charges related to accessing government computers to commit fraud.

Walker worked as a school counselor and was also identified as a girls basketball coach.

Authorities have not publicly explained whose records were allegedly changed or whether the changes were connected to the other accusations.

Initially Held Without Bond

Walker was already out on bond from her May 8 arrest when she was taken into custody again on May 21.

A magistrate initially ordered her held without bond. Court reporting said the decision was made under Iryna’s Law, which requires a judge to decide release conditions when someone accused of a violent offense is arrested while already on pretrial release.

A judge later modified Walker’s release conditions and set a secured bond of $20,000 in each of her five cases.

She posted the full $100,000 amount on May 26 and was released from jail.

No Contact With Alleged Victims

As part of her release conditions, Walker is prohibited from contacting the alleged victims.

All five cases have been transferred to Randolph County Superior Court, where the felony charges will continue through the court system.

Walker has not been convicted, and the accusations remain allegations unless proven in court.

School District Ended Employment

Asheboro City Schools confirmed Walker is no longer employed by the district as of May 8.

She had worked for the school system since February 26, 2018, and served as a counselor at Asheboro High School.

The district previously said it could not discuss details involving students because of privacy laws. Officials said student and staff safety remained their main concern and that the district would continue cooperating with investigators.
