Georgia Woman Shot 10 Times by Ex-Boyfriend and Held Captive in Terrifying Car Ride

November 26, 2025

DOUGLASVILLE, GEORGIA – A 23-year-old woman is lucky to be alive after surviving a brutal domestic violence attack where her ex-boyfriend allegedly shot her 10 times and refused to let her out of the vehicle. Shamay Pitt shared her harrowing story to warn others about the dangers of staying in toxic relationships after she nearly lost her life on November 2.

The nightmare began when Pitt agreed to meet up with her former boyfriend, 25-year-old Joshua Woodruff. She picked him up in her car, but their conversation quickly took a violent turn. Woodruff allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire inside the vehicle. Pitt recalled the immediate aftermath and told local reporters that her ears were ringing as she realized he was shooting at her.

Pitt, 23, warned others to leave dangerous relationships immediately after her near-death experience.

A Drive from Hell

The ordeal did not end with the shooting. Woodruff reportedly kept driving the car for hours and traveled from DeKalb County across several other counties while Pitt sat bleeding in the passenger seat. She described the horrific injuries she witnessed on her own body and told interviewers she could see "the inside of me on the outside."

Woodruff allegedly drove the bleeding victim around for hours across several counties before finally stopping for help.

Pitt feared she would not survive the loss of blood. She begged Woodruff to stop the car so she could at least die outside. She pleaded with him to just lay her on the grass so she could breathe because she did not want to die inside that car.

Woodruff eventually drove to WellStar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville. Security guards at the facility detained him immediately, and he was taken into custody by the Douglasville Police Department. Paramedics rushed Pitt to Kennestone Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

Suspect in Custody

Police initially charged Woodruff with obstructing or hindering law enforcement. Those charges have since been upgraded to aggravated assault and false imprisonment. He is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

She speaks out after surviving a brutal domestic violence attack where her ex-boyfriend allegedly shot her 10 times and drove her around for hours.

Pitt is still recovering from the multiple gunshot wounds. Her family has launched a fundraising campaign to assist with her medical bills as she begins the long road to physical recovery. She hopes her story serves as a wake-up call for others and says people should run away the moment they see a red flag.
