DALLAS, TEXAS — A tragic early-morning crash in Downtown Dallas has claimed the life of a young woman, identified by family members as 23-year-old Aya Knox. The incident occurred when an SUV struck and subsequently dragged the pedestrian for approximately a city block.
The fatal auto-pedestrian accident took place around 4:40 a.m. Saturday, 15 November 2025, at the intersection of Elm Street and Field Street (the 1500 block of Elm Street). Dallas Police Department (DPD) officers and Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) immediately responded to the scene after receiving the emergency call.
Rescue Efforts and Investigation Underway
Upon arrival, first responders found the victim pinned tragically beneath the vehicle. DFR crews utilized specialized airbags to lift the SUV and free the woman. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was detained by DPD for questioning. Authorities spent several hours at the intersection collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and seeking surveillance footage from nearby businesses as they attempted to reconstruct the collision.
As of Sunday evening, police had not publicly released the identity of the driver, and it remained unclear whether the driver would face criminal charges. Investigators are actively reviewing all factors, including whether speeding, distraction, or impairment may have contributed to the fatal crash.
Remembering 'The Queen of Dallas'
The devastating loss has deeply impacted the victim’s family and friends. Family members later identified the young woman as Aya Knox, affectionately known by her loved ones as "The Queen of Dallas."

Knox had recently celebrated her birthday and was remembered at a heartfelt vigil in South Dallas. Her aunt, Nakia Clay, described the loss as "traumatic and surreal," and emphasized the importance of remembering Knox for her bright personality, warmth, and compassion.

Knox was remembered for her dedication to helping others, working at a local medical clinic while aspiring to become a nurse. Her aunt, Nakia Clay, emphasized that the nickname "The Queen of Dallas" reflected how deeply loved Aya was, adding, "Family meant everything to Aya."
