
LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA A titan of the video game industry has met a sudden and violent end on a treacherous stretch of road in Southern California.

A Fiery Wreck
The tragedy unfolded on Sunday December 21 around 12 43 pm local time.
For unknown reasons the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a concrete barrier with massive force. The impact was catastrophic causing the vehicle to become fully engulfed in flames immediately.

Trapped in the Inferno
The California Highway Patrol released a chilling account of the scene. They stated that the passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the crash while the driver remained trapped inside the burning wreckage.
Both parties succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene. Authorities stated it is uncertain whether drugs or alcohol were responsible for the crash and the names were initially withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An Industry Titan Lost
Electronic Arts the parent company of Respawn Entertainment confirmed the death of Zampella in a statement to PEOPLE.
Zampella co created the studio Infinity Ward in 2002 and launched Call of Duty in 2003.

A Lasting Legacy
After leaving Infinity Ward Zampella launched Respawn Entertainment in 2010 which produced hits like Titanfall and Apex Legends.
