WATCH: Police Officer's Vehicle Runs Over Woman Twice During Arrest

November 4, 2025

TORONTO, CANADA - A Toronto Police cruiser ran over a suspect twice during a chaotic arrest on Saturday afternoon, an incident caught on video and widely shared online. The footage has sparked public concern and prompted an internal review by the police.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on November 1, 2025, in the Jane Park Plaza parking lot near Jane Street and Alliance Avenue. Officers were responding to calls about a woman carrying two large machete-style knives who was reportedly damaging parked cars.

According to TPS spokesperson Stephanie Sayer, the 23-year-old woman allegedly slashed the tires of at least two, possibly three, police cruisers before officers deployed a conducted energy weapon (Taser) to safely disarm her.

The Incident: Taser Deployment and Inadvertent Collision

Videos posted online show the woman falling to the ground after being Tasered. As officers moved in to take her into custody, a fourth officer arrived to assist.

“As officers moved to take the suspect into custody, another officer arrived on scene to assist. During this response, the officer’s vehicle inadvertently rolled forward into both the suspect and one of the arresting officers,” Sayer confirmed.

Further footage appears to show the cruiser, a police SUV, running over the woman with its front wheels. The officer who had exited the vehicle then got back into the driver's seat and accelerated forward over the woman, before reversing back over her. Officers can be heard on video shouting at the woman to "stop resisting".

Injuries and Police Response

Despite the alarming footage, police officials stated that the woman and the injured officer did not suffer serious injuries from the collision.

The woman was taken to the hospital as a procedural requirement because she had been hit with a Taser. Toronto Police Association vice president Brian Callanan confirmed she did not sustain any injuries from the police vehicle.

The officer who was struck and trapped under the bumper was seen limping away but was assessed by paramedics and found to not have serious injuries.

TPS is actively reviewing the incident but did not notify the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Ontario's police watchdog. Sayer clarified that the woman's injuries were not deemed serious enough to meet the threshold required for an SIU investigation.

The woman was later charged with weapons dangerous and four counts of mischief under $5,000. She appeared in court on Sunday morning.

Public and Legal Reaction

A man who witnessed and filmed the incident, Peter Korchinski, expressed concern, stating, "She was just a scared person who needed some help."

Lawyer David Shellnutt described the event as a "botched arrest" and "poorly executed police work." He criticized the officer for leaving the vehicle unsecured and suggested that repeatedly driving over the woman demonstrates "gross negligence" that could expose the city and TPS to liability.

Toronto police stated that any potential internal disciplinary matters regarding the officer who was driving the vehicle would remain confidential unless they lead to a public tribunal.
