LOS ANGELES — In the wake of a fatal shooting in nearby San Bernardino, Southern California saw further tragedy early Sunday when a three-vehicle crash in downtown Los Angeles left one car engulfed in flames and one person dead.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the northbound lanes near the West 3rd Street on-ramp at approximately 1:50 a.m. on March 15, 2026. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered a chaotic scene involving three vehicles, with one overturned in the middle of the freeway lanes and completely engulfed in fire.
Emergency Response and Casualties
Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze while paramedics tended to the victims. Despite life-saving efforts, one individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the name or gender of the decedent pending notification of next of kin.
A second victim, identified as a woman, was rescued from the wreckage and rushed to a local trauma center. She remains in critical condition. No other injuries were reported among the occupants of the other two vehicles involved.
Investigation and Traffic Impact
Video from the scene captured the intensity of the fire as flames burst from the overturned vehicle. The northbound lanes of the 110 Freeway experienced significant closures throughout the early morning hours as investigators from the CHP worked to document the scene and clear the charred wreckage.
