TAIPEI, TAIWAN – A terrifying rampage through the heart of the capital of Taiwan has left three innocent people dead and a city in shock. On a busy Friday evening crowds of commuters and shoppers were suddenly plunged into a war zone when a 27 year old man unleashed a coordinated attack using smoke grenades and knives.
The First Wave of Terror
The nightmare began near the Taipei Main metro station. Wearing a gas mask and dressed entirely in black Chang Wen threw smoke grenades near an underground exit filling the station with blinding fumes. As panic set in he began randomly attacking pedestrians with a sharp object.
One brave 57 year old man attempted to stop the assailant but paid the ultimate price. He suffered a fatal penetrating injury that pierced from his right lung to his left atrium.
The Slaughter Continues
Chang did not stop there. Police say he used an underground path to return to a hotel room where he had been staying to retrieve more weapons. He then emerged near the popular Eslite Spectrum Nanxi department store.
Unleashing more smoke grenades to create chaos he entered the building and hunted for victims on the first and fourth floors. Witnesses described a scene of absolute horror as he stabbed multiple people primarily targeting their necks.
A Cowards End
The rampage finally came to an end not with an arrest but with a final act of violence. Cornered at the department store Chang Wen jumped from the sixth floor. He was declared dead at a nearby hospital.
Authorities later revealed that Chang was a wanted man having failed to report for mandatory military service training in November 2024. His rental home and hotel room contained a cache of lethal weapons suggesting he had been planning the massacre for some time.
