COCOA, FLORIDA – A terrifying scene played out on a busy Florida interstate Monday evening. Dashcam footage has captured the exact moment a small plane attempted an emergency landing and smashed directly into a moving car, sending sparks flying and shutting down the highway.
The Impact
The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the "fixed-wing multi-engine aircraft" was attempting an emergency landing when it collided with a 2023 Toyota Camry.
The video shows the plane diving toward the roadway, careening into the back of the sedan, and appearing to bounce on top of it before crashing to the left. "I thought it might maybe aim around and not hit the car, but bam, the wheel just smacked right dab on the back of the car," witness Peter Coffey told reporters.

A Miraculous Escape
Despite the violence of the collision, the 57-year-old female driver of the Camry miraculously suffered only minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The 27-year-old pilot and his 27-year-old passenger were uninjured in the freak accident.
Witness Jim Coffey described the surreal nature of the event to local news: "We just saw this plane drop out of the sky... Fortunately, the car didn’t roll, it kind of mashed and went to the side."

Investigation Underway
Photos of the aftermath show the plane with its nose and wheel torn off sitting near the crumpled vehicle. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced it will lead the investigation into the emergency landing incident, while the Florida Highway Patrol conducts the crash investigation.
