  • ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller crashed his vehicle head-on into a semi-truck in Jasper County, Missouri, captured on dashcam footage.
  • Miller suffered severe injuries, including a compound fracture of his left femur and the amputation of his left arm.
  • The Missouri State Highway Patrol attributed the collision to improper lane usage by Miller, with circumstances regarding substance use remaining unknown.

JASPER COUNTY, MISSOURI — Just 10 days after a seaplane carrying eight passengers crashed into New York City's East River with the entire terrifying moment captured on video from inside the aircraft, another piece of footage showing a collision that changed someone's life in an instant has been released. This time, it is a dashcam recording from a Missouri highway, and it shows the exact moment a well-known ESPN analyst's vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a semi-truck head-on at nearly 4 o'clock on a Tuesday afternoon.

What the Video Shows

The footage, obtained by The California Post, shows Miller's blue 2023 Ford Bronco traveling along a road in Jasper County at around 3:50 p.m. Suddenly, with no apparent warning, the vehicle crosses over the centerline and moves directly into the path of an oncoming semi-truck. The semi's driver attempts to swerve out of the way but does not have enough space or time to avoid the collision. Both vehicles make full contact.

Miller's Bronco skidded several yards after the impact before coming to a stop in a patch of grass off the roadway.

A Witness Describes What They Saw

A witness driving about 100 yards behind Miller saw the entire thing happen and described the scene in the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

"I witnessed the Bronco just a hard swerve into the semi's lane. The semi tried to swerve. It made contact. I haven't ever seen a car explode like that. I ran to the Bronco and there was no one in the vehicle. I heard groaning behind me."

The witness found Miller in the grass and called 911.

Miller had been wearing his seatbelt properly at the time of the crash. The MSHP report noted that during the collision and due to the extensive damage to the vehicle, the belt was cut, resulting in him being ejected.

The Extent of His Injuries

A GoFundMe page set up by Miller's family in the weeks after the crash described injuries that paint a picture of how violent the impact was. Miller suffered a compound fracture of his left femur, a shattered left kneecap, and multiple broken ribs. He lost a significant amount of blood. His left arm had to be amputated.

Miller's Ford Bronco came to rest in a patch of grass after skidding several yards from the point of impact.

Where Things Stand Now

Miller made his most recent public statement on X on July 10, nearly a month after the crash. He said he had undergone several successful surgeries and was stepping away from ESPN indefinitely to prioritize his healing.

"Thank you to all for the prayers and thoughts; please keep them coming," he wrote.

The MSHP crash report listed improper lane usage or change by Miller as the probable contributing circumstance of the collision. Whether alcohol or marijuana played any role was listed as unknown in the official report.

A Separate Investigation

Miller's recovery is not the only thing he is navigating right now. In the weeks since the crash, a number of people have come forward on social media claiming that Miller withheld prize money or charitable payments owed to them. The Missouri Attorney General's Office has since opened a formal investigation into those allegations, according to Awful Announcing. Miller has not publicly addressed the claims.
