LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — Tawnia McGeehan and her 11-year-old daughter, Addi Smith, were found dead inside a room at the Rio Hotel & Casino after they were reported missing during a Las Vegas cheer competition weekend, according to Las Vegas police and local reporting.

Welfare Check Led To Discovery
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said officers were asked to conduct a welfare check Sunday morning at the Rio Hotel & Casino on West Flamingo Road. Officers initially knocked and attempted contact but did not enter the room at that time, officials said. Hotel security later made entry and found two deceased females inside, police said.

Investigation Points To Murder Suicide
During a briefing, LVMPD Lt. Robert Price said investigators found a note and determined the mother shot her daughter before taking her own life. Police said the investigation into circumstances and motive remained ongoing.
