SIMI VALLEY, CALIFORNIA – Chilling new details have emerged regarding the double murder of Dr. Eric Cordes and his wife, Vicki Schiller. A neighbor revealed that the couple’s killer son allegedly lay in wait to ambush and gun them down inside the garage of their luxury home.
The Stakeout
The attack was calculated and cold. Neighbor Mike Hylton told reporters that the suspect, identified as Keith Cordes, drove his black Honda Civic past the home at 11:25 p.m. for a "dry run." He then staked out the property from a nearby cul-de-sac and waited for the perfect moment to strike.
At 12:01 a.m., the garage door opened. That was the signal the killer had been waiting for. Hylton’s son heard shots fired and saw a car speed away from the scene.
"I Watched Them Die"
Hylton ran to the home and discovered a bloodied nightmare. Dr. Eric Cordes, 63, had been shot in the neck and head. He was found hanging out of the door jamb of his Maserati. His wife, 66-year-old Vicki Schiller, was lying on the ground behind him with multiple gunshot wounds.
"I watched them die," Hylton recounted. He noted that Dr. Cordes passed away almost immediately, while Schiller may have survived for about ten minutes. Paramedics attempted CPR, but it was too late.
A Dispute Over Money
The suspect is believed to be the couple's son who had been living in Kentucky. Hylton stated there was a dispute over money and a threat had been made previously.
Less than three hours after the murder, police located the black Honda Civic 70 miles away in Chino. The vehicle had been set on fire. A body was found inside the wreckage, though police have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the remains.
