Retired NYC Diner Owner Charged with DUI After Wife Dies in Florida Golf Cart Crash

NOCATEE, FLORIDA – A retirement dream has turned into a nightmare for a former New York City business owner. Angelo Theodosiou, 64, has been charged with driving under the influence after a golf cart crash in a Florida coastal community claimed the life of his wife.

A Deadly Fall

The incident occurred late on the night of November 30 in Nocatee, an unincorporated community known for its golf cart-friendly paths. According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the couple was cruising through the area around 10:45 p.m. when 58-year-old Christina Theodosiou fell from the moving cart.

She struck her head against the pavement and suffered critical injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries the following day.

"Bloodshot and Watery"

Responding officers noted immediate signs of impairment in the driver. According to the arrest report, Angelo Theodosiou’s eyes were "bloodshot and watery," and officers could smell an "odor of alcoholic beverage" on him from three feet away.

A distraught Angelo reportedly refused to complete field sobriety exercises or submit to a breathalyzer test at the scene. He was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing.

Residents in the Florida community had previously raised concerns about congestion and safety on the local greenway paths.

"Heartbroken" and Depressed

Angelo's attorney, L. Lee Lockett, stated that his client is "heartbroken" and maintains he was not impaired at the time of the accident. "He’s distraught. He’s depressed as can be," Lockett told local reporters.

Before retiring to the Sunshine State, Angelo co-owned the Jackson House Restaurant in Jackson Heights, Queens. He was known in the neighborhood for treating customers like "family." He has been released on bond as the legal case proceeds.
