MILAN, ITALY — Kamila Sellier of Poland was taken off the ice on a stretcher Friday night after she was cut above her left eye by a competitor’s skate blade during the women’s 1500-meter short track speedskating quarterfinal at the Milano Ice Skating Arena.

Crash Involved Multiple Skaters
Sellier fell along with Italy’s Arianna Fontana and American skater Kristen Santos-Griswold during the race. Reports said Santos-Griswold received a penalty for an illegal lane pass that contributed to the incident, which prevented her from advancing out of the quarterfinal round.
Race Paused as Medical Team Responded
The race was paused as medical personnel treated Sellier on the track. A large sheet was held up to shield the response from the crowd. She later gave a thumbs-up as she was taken away, and officials cleared blood from the ice before competition resumed.
Condition Update Reported
Polish officials said Sellier’s eye was OK. She received stitches at the arena and was taken to a hospital for additional testing.
Fontana Advanced After Treatment
Fontana received brief treatment for her left hip during the stoppage and later finished second in her heat to advance. She later moved on to the finals, according to the report.
