RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA – It is a tragic sight that has shocked the internet and broken the hearts of an entire generation. Former child star Tyler Chase, who once made millions laugh on one of the most popular shows on Nickelodeon, has been found fighting for survival on the unforgiving streets of California.
A Star in the Gutter
The 36-year -old (former) actor was once a familiar face to millions of children as the character Martin Qwerly on the hit series Neds Declassified School Survival Guide. But a viral video originally shared in September has revealed a devastating reality.
Chase was filmed living on the streets of Riverside, California appearing extremely disheveled and unrecognizable from his television days. The fan recording the footage asked the former star if he was on the Disney Channel. Chase corrected the stranger telling them he was on Nickelodeon and confirming he was the kid from the popular survival guide show.
A Mothers Desperate Plea
The video sparked immediate outrage and concern across social media with many fans criticizing the person filming for exploiting a human being at their lowest point. In the wake of the viral clip a fundraising page was launched to assist the struggling actor and raised over 1200 dollars.
However the story took a darker turn when the mother of the actor stepped in to shut down the donations. She revealed that Tylor needs medical attention rather than cash. She explained that he refuses medical help and cannot manage money for his medication noting that he has lost several phones within days of receiving them.
Costars Vow to Help
The heartbreaking clip reached the former costars of Chase including Devon Werkheiser Lindsey Shaw and Daniel Curtis Lee. The group discussed the situation on their podcast in September. Lee expressed anger that someone would shove a camera in the face of a person falling on hard times but admitted feeling powerless to change the situation.
Lindsey Shaw who has battled her own demons with addiction admitted she related to his struggle. The group vowed to help get Tylor on a better path but emphasized that he needs serious intervention before anything else can happen.
