MARION, LOUISIANA — Erin Elizabeth Sutton, a 41-year-old Louisiana woman, was arrested Tuesday after allegedly swimming naked in a neighbor's pond and attacking a responding sheriff's deputy. The incident began when deputies responded to a trespassing complaint in the Linville community.
Suspect Claimed to be a Mermaid
Deputies arrived at the scene to find Sutton naked and swimming in a pond on the caller's property. When officers ordered her to exit the water, she initially refused, telling them she was "trying to be a mermaid."

Sutton eventually exited the pond. Due to the cold temperatures, emergency medical services were contacted to evaluate her condition.
Assault on Law Enforcement
As a deputy attempted to wrap Sutton in a blanket and escort her inside to warm up, she allegedly charged at him. Authorities state that a Taser was deployed but had no effect on her.

Sutton was taken to the ground, where she reportedly kicked and punched the deputy before being restrained. During transport to the hospital, she allegedly threatened to kill both the deputies and paramedics.
Surrender and Charges
Because Sutton required medical care at the time of the incident in November, arrest warrants were issued later. She surrendered to deputies on January 6.

Sutton is being held on a $62,000 bond. She faces multiple charges, including battery of a police officer, public intimidation, and resisting an officer with force or violence.
