MILWAUKEE — Amanda Varisco, 44, was the victim of a fatal stabbing on Feb. 5, 2026, inside an apartment she shared with 39-year-old Mile Dukic.
Milwaukee Police Department officers discovered Varisco unresponsive on the floor of the residence near 36th Street and West National Avenue during a welfare check. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Dukic was arrested at the apartment and has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of felony bail jumping.
Discovery and Communication
The welfare check was initiated after Varisco’s daughter received several text messages from Dukic. In the messages, Dukic allegedly stated that he had killed Varisco because she was being "disrespectful" and talking to another man on the phone. According to the criminal complaint, Varisco’s daughter and her boyfriend attempted to enter the apartment before police arrived, but Dukic refused to open the door, stating that she was already "gone."
When officers gained entry, Dukic reportedly stated, "I didn't want to do it."

Investigation and Motive
During police interviews, Dukic stated that the incident began when Varisco received a phone call from another man and expressed a desire to leave the apartment to meet him. An argument ensued, which Dukic admitted escalated into physical violence.
The suspect told detectives he punched Varisco until she appeared unconscious before retrieving a knife. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office reported that Varisco sustained 22 stab wounds to her chest and abdomen, as well as defensive wounds on her hands and arms.
Criminal History and Legal Status
At the time of the incident, Dukic was out of custody on bond for open felony cases involving stalking and bail jumping. Court records also indicate a 2008 conviction for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle following a fatal crash.
Dukic remains in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail and made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026. Varisco, a mother of four and grandmother of five, is the subject of a community fund established by her family to assist with funeral costs.
