Deltona, Florida — Two Florida middle schoolers are learning the hard way that vandalism isn’t exactly a career path. The 12- and 13-year-old boys allegedly broke into Friendship Elementary School’s library and left behind about $50,000 worth of destruction, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the duo’s after-hours “field trip” included smashing glass doors, flipping and breaking furniture, scattering books like confetti, and decorating the walls with graffiti. At one point, a fire alarm was triggered, summoning deputies to discover the chaos.
Surveillance and body cam footage caught the masked vandals in action—one even accessorized with a Monster Energy hat, because apparently nothing says “criminal mastermind” like brand loyalty.

When police released the video, the boys’ reign of terror ended not with a dramatic chase, but with their mothers marching them straight to law enforcement. Both quickly confessed, putting an end to their brief but spectacularly unwise crime spree.

The boys now face charges including burglary, trespassing on school grounds, criminal mischief, and theft—charges that could serve as their first real lesson in consequences.
School officials, meanwhile, reiterated their zero-tolerance policy for property destruction, though it seems the lesson about respecting books and furniture didn’t quite stick before this debacle.
