LOS ANGELES – Hollywood icon Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were discovered butchered inside their sprawling Brentwood estate on Sunday afternoon. As the entertainment world reels from the double homicide, detectives are focusing their attention on the couple's troubled adult son as a person of interest.

A Gruesome Discovery
Officers swarmed the high-end property Sunday afternoon after receiving a call regarding a double stabbing. Inside, they found the 78-year-old director and his 68-year-old wife suffering from fatal wounds.
While police initially withheld the names, law enforcement sources confirmed that the victims were the All in the Family star and his partner of nearly 40 years. The Reiner family later issued a heartbreaking statement confirming the tragedy.
"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner," the family said. "We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."

Focus on Troubled Son
Sources close to the investigation say authorities are looking closely at the couple’s 32-year-old son, screenwriter Nick Reiner. Nick has a documented history of drug addiction and homelessness, struggles that he and his father openly discussed in the past.
"I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas," Nick told People magazine in 2016. "I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun."

Hollywood in Shock
The atmosphere outside the home was chaotic and somber. A man identifying himself as Reiner’s assistant, Rocco, was seen speaking with officers, offering help to access the property. Meanwhile, devastation rippled through the neighborhood as longtime friends arrived at the scene.
Comedian Billy Crystal, one of Reiner’s closest friends and the star of When Harry Met Sally, was spotted arriving at the home looking visibly shaken and on the verge of tears. Seinfeld creator Larry David was also seen near the property as investigators worked behind the police tape.
Despite the high profile of the victims, the investigation faced delays. in a press conference described as shambolic, LAPD Detective Chief Alan Hamilton admitted that six hours after the 911 call, police were still waiting on a search warrant to fully process the home.

Legacy of a Legend
Tributes began pouring in immediately from political leaders. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the deaths a devastating loss for the country, while California Governor Gavin Newsom praised Reiner’s advocacy for civil rights and early education.
Reiner, best known for directing classics like The Princess Bride, This is Spinal Tap, and A Few Good Men, leaves behind a massive cultural footprint.
