KUNA, IDAHO — Former high school teacher McKenna Kindred has avoided jail time. She admitted to a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Nearly two years later, she remains married to her husband. They have relocated to Idaho to start a new life.
Illicit Encounters at Home
Kindred, 25, taught at Central Valley High School in Washington. Prosecutors state the relationship began on social media in mid-2022. The student discovered her Instagram account. They began messaging.

The relationship quickly turned sexual. Encounters took place inside the Kindred home. These occurred in November 2022. Her husband, Kyle Kindred, was away on hunting trips at the time.
Plea Deal and Sentencing
Kindred pleaded guilty in March 2024. The charges included second-degree sexual misconduct and communication for immoral purposes. She was sentenced to two years of probation. She must also register as a sex offender for 10 years.

In court, Kindred apologized. She admitted she lost her career and freedoms. The victim’s mother rejected the apology. She called the conduct a "predatory" abuse of power.
Husband Choose to Stay
Kyle Kindred is a real estate attorney. He chose not to divorce his wife despite the scandal. The couple sold their Washington home. They moved to Kuna, Idaho, in June 2024. Property records show they purchased a home there for approximately $498,000.

Kyle now practices law in Boise. His decision to stay has drawn public criticism. Many online have questioned how a spouse could remain with a partner convicted of abusing a minor.

Career Ended
McKenna Kindred surrendered her teaching license. She has not returned to education. She voluntarily relinquished her credentials following an investigation by the Idaho Standards Commission.
