ROCHESTER, NEW YORK — Federal agents have arrested an Afghan national in upstate New York. Waheed Allah Mohammad, 39, was taken into custody on New Year's Day. He was previously convicted of attempting to kill his teenage sister in an "honor violence" attack.
"Bad Muslim Girl"
The stabbing occurred in 2008. Mohammad attacked his sister during an argument. He stabbed her multiple times. He reportedly told authorities she had disgraced the family.

He accused her of being a "bad Muslim girl." He cited her choice to visit nightclubs and dress immodestly as the reason for the attack.
Conviction and Status
Mohammad was convicted in 2009. The charges included first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He also received five years of supervision.

Mohammad entered the U.S. legally in 2004. However, his violent crime violated the terms of his status. An immigration judge ordered his deportation in 2012.
"Worst of the Worst"
ICE Director Todd M. Lyons issued a statement following the arrest. He described the operation as a priority for public safety.
"When we say ICE is arresting the ‘worst of the worst,’ this is exactly what we mean," Lyons said. He emphasized that criminals who threaten their families have no place in the community.

Mohammad remains in federal custody. He is currently awaiting deportation.
