BUTLER, PA — Ryan Hosso, a 26-year-old mechanical engineer, gunned down his wife inside their Seven Fields home before retreating into the woods to end his own life. Pennsylvania State Police discovered the body of 25-year-old Madeline Spatafore early Tuesday morning after Hosso’s parents reported a disturbing phone call from their son. During the call, Hosso reportedly confessed to the killing and threatened to take his own life.

Ryan Hosso fatally shot his 25-year-old wife, Madeline Spatafore, before dying by suicide.

A Relationship Cut Short

The couple were high school sweethearts who graduated from Seneca Valley High School before marrying in September 2024. Despite their long history together, the marriage ended in violence less than two years after they tied the knot. Investigators used thermal drones to locate the body of Ryan Hosso in a wooded area near the residence, where he had succumbed to a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The relationship between Hosso and Spatafore began during their high school years.

A Life of Service and Achievement

Madeline Spatafore was a highly respected professional in the medical community, working as a critical care physician assistant at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. A 2023 summa cum laude graduate of Duquesne University, her colleagues and neighbors described her as a dedicated health services professional. Police confirmed she sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the attack inside the couple's home.

The couple, who had been together since high school, wed in September 2024.

Ongoing Investigation

While Ryan Hosso had previously worked for a Pittsburgh-based engineering firm, the company owner stated he had not been employed there for several years. Authorities have not yet established a motive for the murder-suicide, and the Pennsylvania State Police investigation remains active as they piece together the final moments of the young couple's lives.
