HOUSTON, TEXAS — Weeks after the latest update of a 10-year-old boy was charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a 13-year-old Houston girl, another Houston case has ended in tragedy. This time, a father was killed after he tracked his stolen truck using GPS and confronted the man accused of taking it.

The victim was identified as 56-year-old Louis Erebia. Deputies said he was shot Saturday afternoon after trying to recover his stolen Chevy Silverado.

Louis Erebia was killed after tracking his stolen truck in Houston, Texas.

Truck Stolen While Son Was Getting Gas

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Erebia’s son was putting gas in the pickup truck when London Hogan Sr. allegedly pulled out a gun and stole it.

Erebia and a friend later tracked the truck using GPS.

The tracking led them to the area where the stolen Silverado was being driven.

Crash Disabled Stolen Truck

Deputies said the vehicle Erebia was in became involved in a collision with the stolen pickup truck.

The crash disabled the Silverado.

Deputies say London Hogan Sr. stole the Chevy Silverado while Erebia’s son was getting gas.

Authorities said a male and female suspect then got out of the stolen truck. Erebia chased after them.

Deputies said Hogan fired multiple shots during the confrontation.

Father Killed, Another Man Shot

Erebia was shot and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Another man was also shot during the incident. Authorities said he is expected to survive.

Hogan was later charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Erebia and a friend used GPS to locate the stolen pickup truck.

Suspect Was on Probation

Court records cited by authorities show Hogan had a long criminal history.

His past cases included burglary, drug possession, and dismissed charges involving a weapon, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance.

He was also on deferred adjudication for a 2023 assault case involving impeding breath or circulation. A judge noted during a hearing that Hogan had entered that deferred status in March 2024.

Family Remembers Erebia as a Hero

A relative of Erebia wrote online that his life was taken far too soon.

She said he died doing what he always did, protecting others. She described him as a hero, a pillar of the community, and the backbone of his family.

The case remains active as prosecutors move forward with the charges against Hogan.
