NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The victim of a fatal domestic violence incident discovered Wednesday morning in a North Hollywood residence has been identified as Mayra Jimenez.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers arrested the victim's husband, 45-year-old Andrew Jimenez, on suspicion of murder following the discovery of her body at their home on the 5600 block of Satsuma Avenue. Jimenez, a veteran firefighter and paramedic with the Glendale Fire Department, is currently being held on $2 million bail.

Discovery and Arrest

The investigation began around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2025, when Andrew Jimenez arrived at the LAPD’s Northeast Community Police Station. He requested a welfare check on his wife, claiming he had been unable to reach her.

Responding officers arrived at the residence to find Mayra Jimenez deceased from blunt force trauma. An ax, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered near the body. Following an initial interview, authorities detained Jimenez, stating that the investigation revealed a marital dispute that escalated into domestic violence.

Legal Charges and Motive Claims

Andrew Jimenez has been formally charged with one count of murder with an enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon. If convicted, he faces a sentence of 26 years to life in state prison.

While the LAPD has characterized the incident as an isolated case of domestic violence, an attorney representing the defendant suggested that romantic jealousy may have played a role. The attorney claimed that Jimenez allegedly discovered a diary belonging to the victim regarding an extramarital affair shortly before the incident occurred. That attorney has since withdrawn from the case.

Community and Professional Impact

Mayra Jimenez was a dedicated educator at Wilshire Park Elementary in Koreatown and a representative for United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). Following the announcement of her death, the school community organized a candlelight vigil where students and colleagues gathered to commemorate her impact as a teacher.

The Glendale Fire Department, where Andrew Jimenez has worked since 2008, confirmed he has been placed on administrative leave. In a public statement, the department expressed condolences to the victim’s family and described the matter as deeply troubling.

The LAPD Homicide Unit is continuing to process evidence from the scene, including the recovery of two rifles from the home, though it remains unclear if firearms were involved in the crime.
