Wilton Manors, Fla. — A late-night break-in turned into a dramatic takedown last weekend when an intruder mistakenly entered the home of MMA fighter Henny Rojas, only to find himself quickly overpowered.

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours of September 27, when Rojas was staying at his sister’s Wilton Manors residence. He was awakened by his teenage nephew, who alerted him that someone had broken into the living room.
Rojas Putting His Martial Art Training to Use
Rojas, who has been training in mixed martial arts for about three years, immediately sprang into action. “I don’t have guns; I wasn’t looking for a knife — just God and my hands, that’s it,” he later said of the encounter.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Austin Caresani, claimed he had been drinking at a nearby club and accidentally entered the wrong home, believing he was headed to a friend’s place. Witnesses described Caresani as disoriented and visibly injured after the confrontation.

The Cops Show Up
When police arrived, Rojas had already subdued the intruder and held him until officers took him into custody. Caresani’s face appeared bruised when he appeared in court hours later.
He was booked into the Broward County Jail on a home invasion charge and later released on a $20,000 bond.

Rojas said he has no regrets about stepping in to protect his family. “Protect your family,” he said. “There are a lot of crazy people out there looking for trouble.”
