VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA — A 40-year-old father has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly confronting a man he believed sold a THC vape cartridge to his 15-year-old daughter. Authorities say the father posed as a buyer, arranged a meeting, and then threatened the man with a handgun.
Gas Station Sting Turns Violent
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 16, after Alan Olson noticed his teenage daughter acting strangely when she returned home. Suspecting drug use, Olson searched her phone and found messages linked to a person allegedly selling THC cartridges.

Using his own phone, Olson posed as a customer and arranged to meet the suspected dealer at a Circle K gas station. When the man approached Olson’s Chevrolet truck, he was allegedly met with accusations and threats. Olson reportedly pointed a silver and black semi-automatic handgun that was believed to be a Glock 9mm, at the man while demanding he follow Olson home to speak with the girl’s family. Investigators say Olson threatened to kill the man if he refused.
Crash, Panic, and Arrest
The man fled in his car and, in a panic, ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle. According to reports, Olson observed the collision and allegedly mocked the man before driving home.

Later, the man contacted police and stated he feared for his life. Officers interviewed Olson’s wife, who said her husband had a “panic attack” after returning home but initially chose not to report the incident. The couple later headed back toward the gas station after receiving a text on the daughter’s phone from the alleged dealer, warning that Olson would be arrested. Olson was stopped by police en route.
Sheriff Warns Against Vigilante Justice
Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood publicly warned citizens not to take the law into their own hands. “I get it. I understand the anger was there, but that is not how you do business. That’s how you get yourself in more trouble,” he said in a statement.
Olson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony in Florida. He posted bail and was released. His arraignment is scheduled for December 18.
Legal experts note that Florida law treats possession and distribution of THC concentrates—such as those found in vape cartridges—seriously. For adults who sell such substances to minors, enhanced penalties may apply depending on the amount and circumstances.
