EAST CARROLL PARISH, LOUISIANA — All eight inmates who escaped the Riverbend Detention Center in Louisiana early Friday have been recaptured and returned to custody, ending a multi-agency manhunt that stretched into Saturday. Authorities described the group as “violent offenders,” and local reporting indicates **four of the men are accused of murder-related crimes.

Final Three Captured Overnight Saturday
Louisiana State Police announced shortly after midnight Saturday that the final three fugitives had been located and taken back into custody. The escape began around 1:20 a.m. Friday, when all eight inmates were reported missing following the breakout.
The first group brought back into custody included Hugo Molino, 27; Trenton Taplin, 29; and Savon Wheeler, 31. Officials later confirmed the remaining five were also recaptured: Destin Brogan, 22; Kelin Looney, 21; Krisean Salinas, 21; Kevin Slaughter, 25; and Koplelon Vicknair, 19.

Murder Charges Cited in Local Reporting
While officials have not released full case details for each inmate, local media reports stated Taplin is facing first-degree murder and attempted murder charges. Brogan and Looney were reported to be charged with second-degree murder, and Vicknair was reported to be awaiting sentencing in connection with a 2023 homicide.
Coordinated Search Cited, Escape Details Not Released
Authorities have not publicly detailed how the men escaped or how each capture unfolded. State police described the arrests as the result of a coordinated mission involving Louisiana State Police and multiple local, state, and federal agencies.
Another High-Profile Jailbreak in Recent Months
The Riverbend escape marked another major jailbreak in Louisiana in recent months. In December, three inmates escaped from a jail in southwest Louisiana by dismantling part of a deteriorating wall and using bedsheets to scale the facility, according to reporting. Two remained on the run for nearly two weeks, while a third later died by suicide after being tracked down.
Officials have also pointed to a separate incident in May, when 10 inmates escaped from a New Orleans jail in a case that drew national attention. Reporting later linked that escape to broken cell doors, a breached bathroom wall, and a climb over a security barrier, with all 10 eventually captured after a multi-state search.
