  • Moulton survived but suffered severe injuries, including a torn retina and a metal plate in her head.

HOUSTON COUNTY, ALABAMA — Days after a college graduate was fatally shot in Alabama, another violent Alabama case has ended with a major prison sentence. This time, a man was sentenced to life in prison after prosecutors said he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and attacked her with a claw hammer.

Latarius Dale was found guilty of first-degree domestic violence in the attack on Brittany Moulton. A judge sentenced him to life in prison on May 21, with the possibility of parole.

Latarius Dale was sentenced to life in prison for attacking his ex-girlfriend with a claw hammer.

Attack Happened After Breakup

Moulton said she had ended the relationship for good in November 2024. By February 2025, she had blocked Dale and cut off contact with him.

She told local media that Dale knew the relationship was over and could no longer control where she was or what she was doing.

Prosecutors said Dale broke into Moulton’s home in Lovetown and attacked her with a claw hammer. He hit her in the face, head, and chest more than two dozen times until she lost consciousness.

Brittany Moulton survived the attack but was left with severe injuries.

Victim Found Outside Neighbor’s Home

Moulton said she remembered hearing footsteps before seeing a dark figure inside her home. She later realized it was Dale.

After the attack, she managed to get outside and tried to reach a neighbor for help. She knocked on the door, but no one answered. She then collapsed in the yard, where she was found the next morning.

Moulton later said she believed God pushed her to get outside so she could survive.

Moulton said Dale attacked her after she blocked him and ended contact.

Severe Injuries

The attack left Moulton with life-changing injuries.

She now has a metal plate inside her head. She was also sewn up from ear to ear after the assault. Her right retina was torn, leaving her blind in that eye.

Moulton said the scars on her head and the damage to her vision are reminders of what happened, but she hopes her story helps other victims keep going.

Earlier Domestic Violence Case

Dale and Moulton share children.

Dale had previously been arrested in 2023 on a third-degree domestic violence charge connected to another alleged incident. Moulton later asked the judge to drop that charge because they were raising children together and she hoped things would improve.

She has since spoken out about the importance of seeking help and not giving up.

Life Sentence Handed Down

Moulton was in the courtroom when Dale was sentenced. She said she felt justice was served.

She also said she wants to be a voice for other victims of domestic violence. She encouraged anyone who needs help, advice, or resources to reach out and not stay silent.

Dale will now serve a life sentence, though he may be eligible for parole in the future.
