NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Months after a Wisconsin horseback tour operator died after an attack during an Antigua beach ride, another violent incident involving Americans in the Caribbean is drawing attention. This time, five American cruise passengers were arrested in the Bahamas after a brawl at the Port of Nassau and a later struggle at a police station.
Police said the group included three women and two men. Their names were not immediately released.
Fight Reported at Cruise Port
Authorities said the incident began Monday evening at the Port of Nassau.
Police said the five tourists became involved in a fight with several cruise ship passengers at the port.
Video from the scene appeared to show people being shoved to the ground during the chaotic altercation.
Group Taken Into Custody
After the fight, police took the five passengers into custody.
Authorities said the situation escalated again at the local police station.
Police described it as a violent struggle and said the group damaged property inside the station.
Chair Thrown Through Glass Door
One woman is accused of throwing a chair through a glass door and shattering it.
Police said one man then kicked out the remaining glass and tried to escape.
Video reportedly showed a man crawling through the broken glass door.
Officers Injured
Four police officers were injured during the incident.
Authorities said one officer suffered a serious injury to his left shoulder and was taken to the hospital.
The five American passengers also suffered minor injuries.
Charges Filed
The passengers are facing several charges, including assaulting a police officer, fighting in a public space, resisting arrest, malicious damage, and disorderly behavior in a police station.
Police said the five suspects remain in custody.
The investigation is still ongoing as authorities review both the cruise port brawl and the police station incident.
