- A UPS driver became a viral sensation after throwing a package at a charging dog during a delivery.
- The incident sparked a heated confrontation between the driver and the dog's owner, escalating tensions.
- Dog bites on delivery workers are alarmingly common, with over 5,400 reported annually by mail carriers alone.
Barely six weeks after a New Jersey father was charged following a viral confrontation that the entire internet had opinions about, another heated clip is dominating social media and splitting people into two very strong camps. This time, it involves a UPS driver, a charging dog, and a 30-pound package that became the most talked-about delivery of the year.
The footage, captured by a Ring doorbell camera and first posted on Facebook within the last 24 hours, shows a UPS driver mid-delivery when a dog comes sprinting toward him at full speed. With no time to think, he throws the package he is already carrying directly at the animal. It connects. The dog stops and backs off.
He Dropped His Hat and Squared Up
Most people watching the clip agreed that part made sense. Delivery drivers face dog encounters constantly, and a dog sprinting at full speed gives you almost no time to react. Throwing the package was a split-second decision that stopped what could have easily become a serious bite injury.
But then the driver did something that changed the entire conversation.
Instead of walking back to his truck and moving on with his day, he tossed his hat and sunglasses onto the ground and turned to face the dog's owner in what looked unmistakably like a fighting stance.
The driver was heard saying "Why, what's the problem?" The homeowner fired back: "Why are you throwing sh*t at my dog?"
The two men faced each other before the situation was eventually de-escalated.
What the Numbers Say
Dog attacks on delivery workers are far more common than most Americans realize. According to U.S. Postal Service data, mail carriers alone report more than 5,400 dog bites every year. That number does not include incidents involving UPS, FedEx, Amazon, or gig economy drivers — whose dog encounter statistics are not publicly reported. Experts believe the real total across all delivery workers is several times higher.
As for this particular driver, UPS has not responded to the footage or confirmed whether he is still employed. No charges have been filed as of the time of publishing.
The debate, however, is still very much going.
