Yaghoub Ali Mirshekari was born in Iran in 1957. Before the murders, Mirshekari was connected to truck theft and cross-border smuggling. He targeted truck drivers because he wanted to steal their vehicles and sell them outside Iran. According to his reported confession, he smuggled stolen trucks through Iran’s border with Pakistan and sold them with the help of a Pakistani contact who had also supplied him with a weapon.
Mirshekari was known by the nickname “The Yellow Scorpion.” the nickname came from his first wife. Several of his relatives were later accused of helping him, including close family members such as his second wife, brother-in-law, and son-in-law. They were sentenced to prison for their roles in the crimes.
In 2004, Yaghoub Ali Mirshekari killed 10 truck drivers in Iran. His motive was robbery. He targeted the drivers so he could steal their trucks and sell them outside the country. Mirshekari killed the drivers either on the road or at his own home. The victims were stabbed or shot. After the killings, he took their trucks and smuggled them through Iran’s border with Pakistan.
Mirshekari later confessed that he sold the stolen trucks with the help of a Pakistani contact. He also said that this contact had provided him with a weapon. Investigators found that Mirshekari did not act completely alone. Five accomplices were also convicted and sentenced to prison. Reports described them as close family members, including his second wife, brother-in-law, and son-in-law.
Mirshekari was convicted of murdering 10 truck drivers. On June 12, 2005, he was publicly hanged in Zahedan, a city in southeastern Iran. He was 48 years old at the time of his execution.
