Bio

Willie Woods was born in 1953. He grew up in the United States, though there is not much detailed information about his early childhood or family life. As an adult, he worked as an electrician for the City of Los Angeles. He held his job at the General Services Department for twelve years, where he handled various tasks from vehicle maintenance to carpet installation.

Willie lived in Upland, California. Over time, he became known for his work as a radio repairman. However, he struggled with performance issues at work. About six months before the events of July 1995, he began receiving negative performance evaluations. This led to arguments with his supervisors. Some co-workers described Willie as a mellow guy. They noted that he seemed to be an average worker, but his problems with management grew more serious over time.

In July 1995, tensions reached a peak when Willie got his most recent performance review. He felt mistreated and began to feel that his supervisors were targeting him. On July 19, he arrived at the Piper Technical Center in Downtown Los Angeles with anger in his heart. He had an argument about his performance evaluation, which upset him further.

Willie's conflicts with his supervisors led to counseling sessions, where he struggled to accept the feedback he received. One incident involved Willie throwing a chair during a counseling session, which showed his frustration. Ultimately, these issues at work contributed to a serious breakdown in his relationship with his bosses.

Murder Story

On July 19, 1995, Willie Woods, a city electrician in Los Angeles, committed a violent act at the C. Erwin Piper Technical Center. That morning, after a dispute regarding a poor performance review, Woods went back to his workspace and retrieved a 19-shot Glock semiautomatic pistol.

He first killed two of his supervisors in their cubicles. Afterward, he moved through the building, heading downstairs to the basement. There, he found and shot one victim in a hallway and another in an office.

Law enforcement arrived quickly, as two officers were already at the complex for unrelated reasons. Woods attempted to exit the building but was arrested without resisting.

He was charged with four murders. The victims were all his supervisors from the General Services Communications Department: James Walton, 60; Anthony Gain, 72; Neil Carpenter, 61; and Marty Wakefield, 57.

Woods was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on February 7, 1997.
