Bio

Willie Lloyd Turner was born in 1946 in Virginia. He grew up in Southampton County, which is located in the southeastern part of the state. His early life is not well-documented, and specific details about his family and childhood experiences are sparse. However, growing up in a rural area like Southampton, it is likely that he faced challenges, common to many in similar environments.

By the end of the 1970s, Turner had become a notorious figure due to his criminal activities. He eventually faced serious charges that led to his arrest and significant legal battles in the following years. The life of Willie Lloyd Turner was marked by a cycle of crime and imprisonment, which began in his youth and continued into adulthood.

Murder Story

In June 1978, Willie Lloyd Turner walked into a jewelry store in Franklin, Virginia. He had a sawed-off shotgun and demanded jewelry and money from the store owner, W. Jack Smith, Jr. Smith complied, but he also triggered a silent alarm, alerting the police. When Officer Alan Bain arrived to investigate, Turner forced him to surrender his gun.

As police arrived, Turner became agitated and fired shots in the store. He shot Smith in the head and then, as Smith fell to the ground, he shot him two more times in the chest, killing him. Turner was arrested that same day after a struggle with Officer Bain.

He faced multiple charges, including capital murder. Following a trial, in which he was found guilty, the jury recommended the death penalty. Turner's prior criminal history and actions during the crime were significant factors in this sentencing decision.

On July 12, 1978, he was arrested for the murder of Smith and eventually convicted. Turner had previously committed another murder while incarcerated in prison. After years of legal battles, including appeals that made their way through various courts, he was executed by lethal injection on May 25, 1995, in Virginia.
