William Lester Suff, born on August 20, 1950, also known as Bill Lee Suff, is an American serial killer infamous for his crimes as "The Riverside Prostitute Killer" and "The Lake Elsinore Killer."
murder story
In 1974, William Lester Suff and his then-wife Teryl were convicted by a Texas jury for the beating death of their two-month-old daughter. Although Teryl's conviction was later overturned due to insufficient evidence, Suff's conviction was upheld, and he was sentenced to 70 years in prison. Remarkably, he served only ten years before being released on parole in 1984.
William Suff's freedom marked the beginning of a horrifying chapter in California's history. He was found guilty of murdering twelve women and attempting to murder another, with his crimes spanning several years. These murders were particularly brutal, involving torture and mutilation.
One of the attempted murders involved Rhonda Jetmore, a 27-year-old woman, who narrowly escaped death by fighting back against Suff during an attack on January 10, 1989. Despite her injuries, she managed to escape and get help from a passing motorist who intervened.
Suff's method was gruesome. On June 28, 1989, Kimberly Lyttle was found dead with signs of strangulation and torture, including cigarette burns on her body. Over the following months, more victims were discovered, each showing signs of brutal violence and strange mutilations. Christina Leal was found with a lightbulb inserted into her, and others like Darla Jane Ferguson were found in posed and degrading states.
Victims were often left in posed positions with severe injuries, as seen with Cheryl Coker, whose body was partially inside a dumpster with a severed breast, and Catherine McDonald, who was stabbed and positioned degradingly.
Suff was eventually arrested on January 9, 1992, following a routine traffic stop where a bloody knife and other incriminating items were found in his car. At the time, he was working for Riverside County, shockingly delivering furniture to the task force assigned to investigate his murders.
In 1995, after a trial filled with gruesome details, Suff was convicted on twelve counts of murder and received the death sentence. He remains on death row at San Quentin State Prison, with his 2014 appeal for the sentence being rejected by the California Supreme Court.
