1990William C. Sallie was born in 1966. He grew up in Georgia. Not much is known about his early life. He lived with his family during his childhood, but details about his upbringing are scarce.
As he got older, he became involved in various relationships. At some point, he married a woman named Robin. Together, they had an infant son. As their marriage progressed, the relationship became strained. This led to them being embroiled in divorce proceedings.
Many factors can affect a person, especially during stressful times like a divorce. While Sallie was dealing with his separation from his wife, tensions increased. His complications with family escalated, particularly with his ex-father-in-law, John Lee Moore.
On March 29, 1990, William C. Sallie entered the home of his in-laws in Bacon County, Georgia. He was armed with a pistol and had handcuffs. He cut the telephone lines to the house before going to the master bedroom. There, he shot his ex-father-in-law, John Lee Moore, who was 41 years old, and wounded his ex-mother-in-law. After the shooting, he kidnapped his ex-wife, Robin, and her sister.
Sallie took them to a trailer he had rented in Liberty County. Once there, he assaulted both women. He was later charged with several crimes, including murder and kidnapping. The case went to trial in March 1991. The jury recommended a death sentence for the murder charge. Sallie was sentenced on May 2, 1991, and he received additional sentences for the other charges as well.
On appeal, Sallie argued that there was a conflict of interest with one of his lawyers. The courts found this claim valid and reversed his convictions, ordering a new trial.
