Wayne Charles Doty was born on April 12, 1973, in Pueblo, Colorado.

Wayne Charles Doty committed two murders that led to his current status on death row. The first murder took place on April 20, 1996, when he shot his former employer, Harvey Horne II, during a robbery for drugs. Doty was convicted of first-degree murder for this crime.

The second murder occurred while Doty was an inmate. On May 17, 2011, he killed fellow inmate Xavier Rodriguez. Doty stabbed and strangled Rodriguez, claiming that Rodriguez had disrespected him and stolen tobacco. He eventually pleaded guilty to this murder.

Doty was first sentenced to death in June 2013, but the sentence was thrown out in 2016 due to changes in Florida's death penalty laws. He was retried in 2018, where the jury unanimously voted to sentence him to death again. As of now, an execution date for Doty has not been set. He has chosen the electric chair as his preferred method of execution.
