Bio

Vladislav Volkovich was born in 1967 in Ukraine. He was one of a pair of twins. Growing up, his family lived in poverty, but there were no reports of abuse or aggression in his household. His childhood was largely uneventful compared to others. He had a normal upbringing and did not face any severe hardships.

From an early age, Vladislav was focused on appearances and always looked for ways to make money. He did not want a traditional full-time job and preferred to explore various methods of earning. During his teenage years, he became friends with Vladimir Kondratenko. The two often talked about different ways to make money and philosophical ideas. They shared a belief that morals and honor did not exist in the world.

As they grew older, their discussions turned darker. They talked about becoming contract killers, thinking it could be an ideal career. They also considered harming people they knew for immediate financial gain. However, they did not know how to find contract work or if they could go through with harming a friend. They decided to practice on homeless individuals instead.

Murder Story

Vladislav Volkovich, also known as "The Nighttime Killer," was involved in a series of murders in Kiev, Ukraine, from 1991 to 1996. He, along with his accomplice Vladimir Kondratenko, was responsible for the deaths of at least 16 people.

The murders began on June 18, 1996, when Evgeniy Osechkin, a 44-year-old factory worker, was found dead near a train station. He had been shot with a .22 caliber rifle and stabbed multiple times. Investigators soon linked this murder to a similar case involving a homeless man who had died in the same area. As the investigation progressed, it became clear that there was a pattern.

In the following weeks, several more victims were discovered, often killed in similar ways. A doctor named Aleksandr Egorov was shot in his car, and shortly after, another man was found murdered a few blocks away. Descriptions from witnesses began pointing to a possible suspect, which matched both Volkovich and Kondratenko.

On September 4, another male victim was discovered. He was shot in the head and chest. The investigation continued to connect more dots, and soon a man named Petr Gromov was also found dead, further leading investigators toward the two men. As they moved closer to solving the case, Volkovich and Kondratenko managed to kill one final victim, an unidentified woman while driving drunk.

After several surveillance efforts and leads, the police arrested Volkovich and Kondratenko. Both confessed to more than 20 murders, along with several robberies and carjackings. Their motives included a desire to become contract killers and to kill for profit and enjoyment.

The trial for their crimes began shortly after their arrest. While in custody, Kondratenko committed suicide. Volkovich was found guilty in 2000 and sentenced to life imprisonment, as the death penalty had been abolished in Ukraine. Throughout the trial, Volkovich attempted to shift blame onto his dead partner but was ultimately held accountable for his actions.
