May 5, 1994Vincent Juan Prowell was born on March 4, 1964. Prowell's psychological profile indicates that he had paranoid personality disorder. This condition might have contributed to his perception of the world and his interactions with others.
Vincent Juan Prowell committed two murders on May 27, 1993, in Evansville, Indiana. He shot Chris Fillbright and Denise Powers, both 22 years old. Denise was in her car, waiting for Chris. As Chris reached for the passenger door, Prowell approached from behind and shot him in the head. He then fired two more shots through the car window, hitting Denise in the face and back.
Both Chris and Denise died from their injuries. After the shooting, Prowell fled the scene and ran over Chris's body as he left. Police later arrested Prowell in Benton County. They found the gun and ammunition in his car. During questioning, Prowell admitted to the shootings and claimed he felt threatened by Chris.
On May 5, 1994, Prowell was sentenced to death for the murders. However, this sentence was later changed. On January 11, 2001, his death sentence was commuted to life in prison. He was allowed to enter a plea of Guilty But Mentally Ill on February 27, 2002. A judge sentenced him to a total of 100 years in prison for the two murders, with a maximum of 50 years for each victim.
