March 23, 1984Victor Carl Puiatti was born on October 3, 1962. He grew up in New Jersey. Puiatti had run-ins with the law, which included a conviction for burglary. As a result of his actions, he was on probation when he later moved to Florida.
In Florida, Puiatti continued to struggle with his life choices. He was involved in a criminal lifestyle that eventually led to more serious offenses. While in Florida, he met Robert Dewey Glock. Their relationship would become significant in the events that followed.
On August 16, 1983, Victor Carl Puiatti and his accomplice Robert Dewey Glock confronted Sharilyn Ritchie as she was getting out of her car in a parking lot outside a shopping mall in Bradenton, Florida. They forced her back into her vehicle at gunpoint. After threatening her, they took money from her purse and coerced her into cashing a check at her bank.
After obtaining money from the bank, the two men drove Sharilyn to an orange grove outside of Dade City. There, they took her wedding ring and left her by the roadside. Shortly after abandoning her, they decided that she would be a witness against them, and they returned to where they had left her.
Puiatti shot Sharilyn twice, but when they saw she was still standing, they drove back again. Glock then shot her once more. When the two realized she had not fallen down, they made a third pass. Glock fired again, and this time she fell. Sharilyn died shortly after.
Four days later, Puiatti and Glock were stopped in New Jersey because of an issue with the vehicle's license plate. The officers found two handguns in the car, one of which was identified as the murder weapon. Puiatti and Glock were arrested for possession of firearms without permits.
During the following days, both men confessed to the kidnapping, robbery, and murder of Sharilyn Ritchie. Their statements varied at first, but they later provided a joint account where Puiatti admitted to firing the first shots while Glock claimed that he fired the last shot. They detailed the events leading up to Sharilyn's death in this confession.
