murder story

On July 16, 2011, Tyler Hadley committed an act of murder in his family home in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He had planned the murders for weeks and communicated his intentions to a friend. That day, Tyler posted on Facebook about a party he intended to have at home later that night. After his parents arrived home, he disabled their phones and locked the family dog in a closet.

Around 5:00 p.m., Tyler took three pills of ecstasy and approached his mother, Mary-Jo, as she worked on her computer. He attacked her first with a claw hammer. His father, Blake, heard the commotion and rushed to help, only to find Tyler attacking Mary-Jo. Tyler then fatally struck his father with the hammer. After the murders, Tyler moved the bodies into the master bedroom and spent hours cleaning the scene.

He invited around 60 people to his party that evening, using his parents' credit cards to fund it. Attendees later reported noticing a strange smell in the house. During the party, Tyler confided in some guests about his actions. One friend, Michael Mandell, later discovered the bodies and eventually reported the murders to the authorities.

Tyler Hadley was arrested early the next morning. He pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree murder. Since he was a minor at the time, he could not receive the death penalty. In 2014, he was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison without parole. This initial sentence was later overturned due to a change in the law regarding juvenile offenders. In December 2018, Tyler was resentenced to life in prison with the possibility of review. He is currently incarcerated at Gulf Correctional Institution.

In April 2015, the Hadley family home was demolished.
