October 27, 1993Toribio Rodriguez Rodriguez was born on May 3, 1967. He was born into a Hispanic family. He grew up in the United States. At some point, he moved to Tucson, Arizona. Living in Tucson, he became an adult.
In 1988, when Rodriguez was 21 years old, he committed a serious crime. It led to his capture and a lengthy legal process that changed his status in society. Following the crime, he was arrested in 1993, five years after the incident occurred.
On January 18, 1994, he was sentenced to death. Later, he was resentenced to life in prison in 2003. These events shaped his legacy and defined his identity in the eyes of the public.
On August 25, 1988, Toribio Rodriguez Rodriguez attacked Dawn Dearing in her apartment in Tucson, Arizona. During this violent incident, he used knives from her butcher block to stab her multiple times. As the handle of one butcher knife broke, he continued the attack by using the blade to slash her throat.
Rodriguez also committed further acts of violence by inserting the handle from the broken knife and a curling iron into Ms. Dearing's vagina. After the murder, he left her body there with the curling iron plugged in and turned on. Ms. Dearing was discovered more than a day later.
In 1993, Rodriguez was arrested after police received a tip related to the crime. The investigation connected him to the case when his fingerprints matched those found on the blade of the broken butcher knife.
Rodriguez’s trial began on October 15, 1993, and concluded with a verdict on October 27, 1993. He was sentenced to death on January 18, 1994. However, on February 4, 2003, his sentence was changed to life in prison without the possibility of release until he had served 25 years.
